I couldn’t stop laughing when I received this sms yesterday evening.
18/2 Perak State Rights and Privileges Committee suspends MB Zambry 18 months, and six BN state exco members 12 months, for comtempt of State Assembly. /theSun
Now, let’s see what Umno leaders have to say on this. This is the best part, identifying the hypocrites.
Perak state legislative assembly Speaker V Sivakumar did not follow procedures in suspending Perak Menteri Besar Datuk Dr Zambry Abdul Kadir and six state executive councillors (excos) from the assembly’s sittings, said former Dewan Rakyat secretary Datuk Abdullah Abdul Wahab.
He said the decision to suspend them by the assembly’s Rights and Privileges Committee, which is part of the legislative process, must get the approval of the members of the assembly.
“The committee can only make recommendations. It is up to the assembly members to approve or reject the recommendations,” he told Bernama here today.
According to Abdullah, the Dewan Rakyat once took a similar action in suspending Fong Po Kuan (DAP-Batu Gajah) as a Member of Parliament, and it was done as per the Standing Orders.
On Dec 11 2001, Datuk Seri Dr Rais Yatim, who was then Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department, had moved a motion to have her suspended for six months for issuing a press statement that insulted Parliament and the Speaker Tun Dr Mohamed Zahir Ismail.
The decision to suspend Fong was put to a vote where 83 members supported it while 28 were against, and it was not done outside the assembly without the approval of its members, he said.
Ah, so nice! All of a sudden UMNO is singing a different tune:
“The decision to suspend Fong was put to a vote where 83 members supported it while 28 were against, and it was not done outside the assembly without the approval of its members“.
If that is the case, how come the legally appointed MB Nizar was directed to resign based on perception of non-confidence outside the assembly? How come nobody dares to mention HRH Sultan Azlan made a mistake by not following procedures in dismissing MB Nizar and making BN the new government of Perak? Where were these ‘law experts’ when:
1) The Election Commission jumped on their power to denied the power of spearker and being a judge?
2) The legally elected MB Nizar had not resigned or voted out by state assembly, but rudely dismissed and ask to resigned, and appointed Zambry Kadir as the new MB making Perak the butt joke of the world being the only state with 2 Chief Ministers?
3) The unconstitutional UMNO/BN take over without tabling no-confidence motion?
Let’s hear more from the hypocrites:
Hamidah Osman, famous for her ‘Kill the Indian, not the snake‘ remark:
State Industry, Investments, Entrepreneur Development, ICT, Tourism and Women Affairs Committee chairman Hamidah Osman laughed when she heard of her suspension through a text message. She found it humorous.
She agreed that Sivakumar had no right to act outside the House and had disgraced it.
Ahmad Shabery, the foamy mouth debater:
Ahmad Shabery added that action taken under the Committee of Special Privileges must be for very specific cases according to the procedures and not by the speaker alone.
He added that the action that can be taken by the committee was similar to that of the Dewan Rakyat whereby action can be taken against what was spoken when the Dewan Rakyat was in progress and not take action on something that happened out of the Dewan Rakyat or the state assembly.
Ahmad Shabery said the committee can recommend to the Dewan Rakyat or the state assembly to take action and the action must be taken when the state assembly or Dewan Rakyat was in session.
Hmm, correctly said Hamidah Osman and Ahmad Shabery. *clap clap clap*
Why don’t you tell HRH Sultan Azlan, Zambry Kadir and BN Perak the same? Anything regarding the affairs of the assembly and its members, MUST BE TAKEN IN THE STATE ASSEMBLY OR WHEN IT IS IN SESSION. Why didn’t you say the same, asking for an emergency meeting for a motion of no confidence against MB Nizar back then? That should be the correct procedure no?
Meanwhile, Tourism Minister Datuk Seri Azalina Othman Said said Sivakumar’s action to suspend Dr Zambry was a politically motivated move.
The Speaker’s action to suspend Dr Zambry and his exco was illogical said Azalina after launching the “Jingle Dan Kuiz Zoom! Malaysia, a programme to promote domestic tourism,” here today.
“The speaker must be deranged,” chided Azalina who further added that it was a desperate tactic and a desperate culture from the Opposition.
“He (Sivakumar) should not have done that. He should have thought more and done more for the people,” she said.
Azalina is the best for consistently providing us with her verbal diarhea. Datuk, would you want to comment on the issue where ‘PKR leaders banned from entering Sarawak’ is a politically motivated or not, please?
Of course, no party is more desperate than Umno, shown in its power grabbing maneuver in Perak. Just see how fast they sworn in the new MB and excos, even when they yet to have enough number of excos. (There are only six state executive council members instead of the usual 10, which Zambry said, “It is convention to have 10 but based on regulations, we can elect less than that based on our needs.” He said that he will revisit the number of executive council members from time to time.)
And I bet Azalina always think more and do more for the people, that is why she terminated the Tourism MoUs with Opposition-ruled states when she was the Sports Minister.
So, did V. Sivakumar acted within his power as a Speaker in metting out the suspension? Quoting constitutional law lecturer Prof Dr Aziz Bari at the International Islamic University here:
“The Speaker is the master of the house…basically,”
Abdul Aziz observed that at the federal level, the Speaker of the Dewan Rakyat has previously made some “absurd and illogical decisions — rejecting motions and suspending members, among others”.
“Now it is the turn of the BN to taste that,” he noted.
Just little example on the antics of BN appointed Speakers, fond of making bias decision in favour of the ruling coalition.
Dewan Rakyat Speaker Ramli Ngah Talib refused to make a ruling against Nazri for using improper language in the house and admitted that improper language is being used all the time in the parliament.
Pandikar Amin, the current Dewan Rakyat Speaker is extremely partial in his judgements, rejecting many motions especially if it is against the ruling coalition members. Here is a post, titled in his favourite word – Reject, Reject, Reject!
Now that BN is put into a vulnerable situation in Perak as PR would have a majority in the assembly and win a vote of confidence if it is called. BN in its desperate move to salvage its latest defeat from this counter attack from PR would predictably start playing the monarchy card along the line ‘the speaker’s action is wrong, disrespectful and disregarding what the Sultan has decided’.
Its propaganda machine would move into full swing, interviewing some ‘professors or law experts’ to say this is irregular and improper, without even studying the Perak constitution yet.
The ‘derhaka, menghina Sultan’ approach would be played over and over again. The Speaker is from the minority ethnic Indian community and it is easy to ignite racial conflicts if some bigots irresponsibly accuse his action as ‘disrespecting’ the Malays traditions and monarchy. Already some idiots intentionally making statements to give such impression.
‘The suspension is tantamount to not respecting the sultan,’ said Mah Hang Soon, one of the suspended members.
“Their refusal to accept the decision by the Sultan of Perak is an insult to the monarchy,” said Hamdi.
I am having so much fun reading Umno leaders highly hypocritical and intelectual statements. While discusssing it with few of my friends, one of them has this to say:
Umno so far is offering vague, flimsy argument regarding the decision by the Speaker such as:
“against the principles of natural justice” since the seven are the people’s elected representatives, and thus the decision would prevent them from carrying their responsibilities. “
Natural justice my bloody arse!! What about Manoharan who is in Kamunting under ISA and not serving his constituents??
(Vijay Kumar Murugavell)
Ditto that Vijay!!
ps: One stupid sleepy old goat directed Zambry to lodge a police report on the suspension. Did the Speaker acting in his official capacity committed a criminal offence? HA! HA! HA!
pss: Najib, your deputy Speaker Hee Yit Foong worth shit. Should go for the Speaker, lah! But he’s not for sale nyahahahahahaaa!
psss: This is a mess created by Najib and HRH Sultan Azlan. Look how it has become? Power struggle, sigh! This fiasco is so over the top, definitely beating all the suspense drama series out there. Bye bye Lost, Prison Break, 24, Heroes!
