MOOpiracy – Meet the Cowfathers… HishaMOOddin, MOOkhriz, MOOsa and MOOhyiddin

I just came back from this place inside the dog’s mouth. Yes. Dog’s mouth. Not cow’s head. Look up Lahad Datu on Google Map. It was a work-related trip, kinda like a monthly affair for me now, except no blood involved. *gasp* Did I just make a sexist joke there?!

As for some comments in my Facebook saying I took planes like riding bikes, well from Miri to Lahad Datu, I need to transit at Kota Kinabalu. So it’s Miri-KK-Lahad Datu. I would spend time waiting at the airport more than the time I spend for work on the trip. (much less if you count the time I tweet lol) Typically, I need to wait for 4-5 hours at KK for the next flight to Lahad Datu.

Enough of my boring life. Let’s move on to my favourite topic, bashing idiots. It’s Friday so I will be gentle.

1st up for bashing today is.. HishamMOOddin Hussein, the Home Minister or famously known as his alter ego, Kerisman.

Hisham defends cow-head protestors

By Asrul Hadi Abdullah Sani

PUTRAJAYA, Sept 2 – The Home Minister today defended and justified last Friday’s cow-head demonstration after meeting with Malay-Muslim representatives of Shah Alam’s Section 23 at his office here today.

Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein pointed out that the residents felt victimized and had no intention to stir racial emotion.

Why would we want to penalise anybody? HAHAHA!

“They are not getting off scot-free. They felt victimised and feel that there is another valid explanation on their part. There was no intention on their part to cause racial divide. They, the organisers, who are sitting left and right of me, didn’t even know that somebody was going to bring the head of the cow during that demonstration.” he said.

He added that the residents only wanted their voices to be heard but it was unfortunate that “the publicity they received was negative because it was linked with racial and religious sentiments.”

A group, claiming to be Muslim residents of Section 23 in Shah Alam, the new site of a Hindu temple, held a demonstration outside the Selangor state secretariat last Friday, dragging a severed cow-head, an animal sacred in Hinduism, which they stomped on and spat at under the gaze of the riot police.

The act was carried out by a group of 50 protestors who oppose the relocation of the Sri Mahamariamman Temple to Section 23 from Section 19, claiming the area is mainly occupied by Malay-Muslims.

The 150-year-old temple was built on a plantation which over the years was developed into housing estates by the Selangor Development Corporation (PKNS). No provisions were made to relocate the temple, which is now in the middle of a Muslim majority area.

Hishammuddin told reporters that the police allowed the demonstrators to proceed because the numbers of protestors were small.

“They said that they were very conscious and all that they wanted to do was to voice their unhappiness about the willingness of the state government to listen to their requests. I was told that even the Hindus there are not so passionate that it is built there (section 23),” he said.

Hishammuddin refuted claims that the protest was organised by Umno and said that the location allocated by the state government is not suitable because Section 23 is predominantly Malay.

However, a check last week showed the neighbourhood was multi-racial, with Indians making up more than a quarter of those who live there.

“If I wanted to use the issue to create chaos in Selangor, I can but we didn’t take such actions,” Hishammuddin said.

He tried to play down the cow-head incident by pointing out that there were previous incidents where a pig-head was used.

“I have it in my records to show there were cases where a pig-head was used by irresponsible parties including leaving the head in front of an Umno building covered by an Umno flag,” he said, but offered no details of such an act.

The Umno vice-president warned irresponsible parties not to provoke racial sentiments because it goes against the concept of 1 Malaysia.

Hishammuddin told reporters that the residents had met with Hindu Sangam two days ago and both parties will be releasing a media statement tomorrow.

“If it can be resolved quickly and can be done with both sides understanding each other … why would we want to penalise anybody?” he said, suggesting he was not in favour of legal action to be taken against any of the protestors.

This big nose clown must be really dumb and desperate to gain few votes from the ‘victimised’ residents.

1. No intention to stir racial emotion.

My blood is boiling over the stupidity displayed by our Home Minister, although from the experience with the previous Home Minister, we know idiocy is a prerequisite for anyone to hold the portfolio. Let’s listen to the ‘demands’ by the protesters and see whether they have intention or not to stir racial emotion.

“I challenge YB Khalid, YB Rodziah and Xavier Jeyakumar to go on with the temple construction. I guarantee bloodshed and racial tension will happen if this goes on, and the state will be held responsible,” shouted Ibrahim Haji Sabri amid strong chants of “Allahu Akbar!”

He then labelled Khalid a “traitor to the Malay race and Islam“.

Anyone with a thinking brain can relate to the innuendos and loud messages these menace were trying to send across when it involved temple, Hindu and cow. No intention to stir racial (and religious) sentiments my foot.

It is utter bollocks and irresponsible for these residents to cite ‘noise from the temple’ would disturb their own praying and religious activities. Is the Islam faith of the  Section 23, Shah Alam residents so weak that they are easily distracted? Well, judging from they did on last Friday, I don’t think anyone who profess and embrace the true spirit of Islam religion would want to be associated with these bunch of low lifes.

And, the last I checked, followers of other religions don’t get offended by the broadcast of prayer calls using loudspeaker 5 times a day starting from early dawn to late evening. At least, they never take it to the streets and carrying a chopped head of what other religion considers as a sacred animal.

2. “..didn’t even know that somebody was going to bring the head of the cow during that demonstration.”

This is bullshit. (pun on the bull not intended) Look at these photos.

Who was ‘carrying’ the cow’s head?

Look ma! They are carrying the cow’s head!

For sure it didn’t appear out of nowhere and joined the demonstration. Wait, actually I photochopped the cow’s head to the photos to make it appear like they did carry it. Poor them for being framed by me.

Same guy above carrying the cow’s head stomping it.

Even if it’s true they didn’t bring the cow’s head, why they spat and stomped on it?  And to think our dumb Home Minister believed the words by these liars. Wait, he’s too dumb to comprehend and went to say these residents  only wanted their voices to be heard and it was unfortunate  “the publicity they received was negative because it was linked with racial and religious sentiments.”

3. The police allowed the demonstrators to proceed because the numbers of protestors were small.

This is double standard and hypocrisy of the highest order! We sure remember how many times the police arrested candle vigils attendees although the number of them were small!

Apparently, gathering peacefully holding candles with no threats and killing of animals is more dangerous than a bunch of maniacs crying for bloodshed, spitting and stomping on the head of dead cow.

4. “…play down the cow-head incident by pointing out that there were previous incidents where a pig-head was used.”

Don’t clown us, Mr Clown-face Minister. Show us the prove if you have them. No way your publicity hungry, biased medias would not jump on such stories if they ever happened. Come on, show us what you have in your records.

Even if it’s true, you know doing that kind of action is WRONG. And to retaliate in the same manner is ALSO WRONG. Two wrongs don’t make a right. Shame on you for trying to downplay the cow-head incident and setting a dangerous precedent by seemingly suggesting the cow’s head protest is okay because they were previous incidents where a pig head was used.

5. The Umno vice-president warned irresponsible parties not to provoke racial sentiments because it goes against the concept of 1 Malaysia.

Oh funny. Now, those sitting next to you, what they did on that Friday afternoon again? Who is going against the concept of 1Malaysia if it’s not you by supporting and justifying the actions by the residents?  You are truly a piece of shit.

Phearrrr meh!!!

Seems like I waste too much internet space for HishaMOOddin and left little for the rest of the crooks. I’ll just write a short, simplified notes for the them

MOOhkriz Mahathir - Shame on you, stupidface for backing HishaMOOddin and the Section 23, Shah Alam cow-head protestors. You are just as racist as your father, but with half the brains. Maybe less. Just like your previous statement during Umno party election saying debate is not good for the party, I quote:

“Furthermore a public debate will only undermine efforts to strengthen the party especially if the issues brought up are sensationalised by the Opposition,” he said.

Now you are suggesting that ‘charging someone of their wrong doings can create unrest?’ That’s the dumbest thing coming our from your mouth, yet. I look forward for more stupid statements from you in the future. Or maybe you should take up this advice from a commenter in Malaysian Insider.

“An daddy-influence-conferred (otherwise disqualified) deputy with a morsel of wisdom would know when not to fart, much less through the mouth.”

MOOsa Hasan – Congratulations for getting your tenure as Inspector General of Police extended. May you continue to work for the demise betterment of Umno and BN and the crooks. Keep stalking those buggers in black shirts and candle vigils freaks. Crush them and rejoice!

MOOhyiddin Yassin – Just shut up, idiot. You are spoiling the very 1Malaysia your boss is trying not very hard to achieve. Oh, you are playing the bad guy and he’s playing the good guy? Very impressive performance. Keep up it but not for long for the wind of change is here and this time it’s ain’t your fart yo!

ps: Sorry for the absence, tweeting is so fun that I neglected my blog ;) As you can see from the Archive section at the side bar, for August I had only 6 posts  while in July I had 18.

pss: Follow my tweets, you”ll get daily, hourly, every minute and second updates of my craps. Simplified version of my blog. Apa tunggu lagi! bongkersz’s tweets, kami mesti pilih! I hope you get the joke.

psss: Emotionally exhausted. Have a great weekend folks!

Tired of this Science and Mathematics crap. Nincompoop politicians, go fuck yourself.

Where should I start? I don’t really know. I’m not very sure.

Our politicians are treating us like punching bags. We are receiving blows after blows, damaging us inside out to the point we are either half dead, paralysed and unable to respond or become immune to the situation that we no longer have any sense of feeling. We no longer care. We get disheartened.

Not all of us are fighters. Not many of us would fight back. Interestingly, many would just sit there or lie down obediently to receive these punches, citing the lack of resources to fight on equal ground as their reason.

Our politicians are bunch of sickos! Be it from Barisan Nincompoops or Pakatan Rakyat, they are the same, just the level or masochism differs. The pain they would inflict on us still hurt the same way.

Thursday July 9, 2009
Maths and Science back to Bahasa Malaysia (fuck you The Star, at the main page you put this title, but in the inside you changed it to a politically uptight title “It is Bahasa again but more emphasis will be placed on learning English“. Do you need to put that BUT in the title? Lapdog!)

PUTRAJAYA: The Government has decided to reverse the Teaching of Mathematics and Science in English policy and revert to Bahasa Malaysia in national schools and Chinese and Tamil in vernacular schools.

1st of all, fuck you Muhyiddin and other politicians alike.

Stop toying with our children. Pros or cons of this ‘new’ policy aside, what the hell politicians like you that knows shit about education and the hardship of the people at the receiving end, keep changing something of such importance, paramount to the development and the future of our younger generation like changing diapers? Fuck you.

Quote:

Based on studies conducted in 2008, he said, the ministry found that only a small percentage of teachers fully used English to teach the two subjects.

“On average, the percentage of those using English during Mathematics and Science periods was around 53% to 58%,” he said, adding that only a small number of teachers were proficient.

That is because every time the government make a new policy, it is done hastily without proper preparation and studies! Why the fuck these teachers don’t teach the subjects in English when they are tasked to do so?

You fucking idiot, only a small numbers of teachers were proficient because they received lousy, substandard education that didn’t put strong emphasize in English when they were studying! That is why we have only 19.2% of secondary teachers and 9.96% of primary teachers were sufficiently proficient in English. Ain’t that pathetic?

I have to agree with the old grandmaster when he said,

But it’s the Government’s responsibility to train and supply capable teachers. I’m confident that our teachers will be able to study and teach in English.

I have written about this before, the actual problem is not the medium language used for teaching but quality of the teachers we have in my previous English or Bahasa Melayu for Science and Maths? where I opinionated for the implementation to be improved and not a complete U-turn of the policy.

Quote:

But, since we already walked down the lane for the past 5 years, let’s keep it that way and stop flip flopping. it will do no good, this flip flop policies. Be firm. Bahasa Melayu or English? Stick with one.

That said, I am against the decision to gamble our students’ future again by changing it back to Bahasa Melayu. Keep using English as medium for Science and Maths. Just make necessary improvements to the current system. Making an U-turn and start again with a totally new policy, is a waste of time and stupid. Gradual changes to the continuing policies is acceptable, but abrupt change of policies should be avoided.

And here we are, wasting our time and energy again for the sake of political survival? And hey! Don’t you love the timing of this policy announcement? At the dawn of a by election – Manik Urai! Just dig the archives, I bet tons of new policies were announced during elections.

So save it, Muhyiddin. We don’t buy your crap about ‘the reason for the reversal in policy was due to objective considerations and not political ones.’ Why the need for you to stress this if it’s not relevant?

While I agree the proficiency and mastery of English language has nothing to do with learning it in Science and Mathematics, these two subjects – especially Science – rely heavily for information widely available in the medium of English. And fuck it, this country is just not ready to teach Science in English when it only translates all science terms directly (and lamely) from English or making senseless new word.

How are you going to translate those technical terms? I experienced first hand the difficulties to switch from Bahasa Melayu to English when I was in university, where most of the good reference books are in English. Bahasa Melayu technical books are basically just rip off of the original books. The lecturers would ask their students to refer to journals and references, which are written in English anyway.

Not to mention it would take YEARS to write/translate all the books on Science and Maths in Bahasa Melayu. After that the books would be obsolete. Every day, there is new research, explorations, new inventions and other introduced through hundreds of research papers. Do we have the right resources to interpret these materials into Bahasa Melayu? I am afraid not.

A pass in English is not necessary but with the latest change of policy the government would put more ‘efforts’ into improving the standard of the language as reflected in the headline ‘.. more emphasis would be placed on learning English’ so you don’t have to worry about declining standard of English among students nowadays. Trust the government to do the right thing, even when we are not happy with its decision!

Let’s move to bashing the hypocrites. I remember when Mahathir made the policy change to use English as the medium to teach Science and Mathematics, we also have such hoo haa hoo haa like now. And without fail, some kaki bodek fuckers would come out to LOUDLY lend their support, singing praises and glory – “Oh, it’s a wise move. We support bla bla we-love-to-kiss-smelly-asses la la la.” These lalang fuckers are the same people that are singing a different tune now.

Political groups welcome move to revert

PUTRAJAYA: Political groups have welcomed the move to revert the teaching of Mathematics and Science to Bahasa Malaysia.

I don’t have to name the political groups. Without reading the article, just by looking at the title I am sure MCA – Mou Chuntoi Association is one of them and yes, I was right. Dickless pussies. (Yeah, that term doesn’t make perfect sense). Note that you can always find perfect irony in their statements, just like what I posted on George Chan yesterday.

MCA information and communications bureau chief Lee Wei Kiat said the Government’s decision was in line with Unesco’s finding that students could learn the two subjects better in their mother tongue.

“For the past six years, many students were affected by the teaching of the two subjects in English and could not catch up.

“This announcement will ensure that our students are competitive in both subjects,” he said.

Lee said the Government’s policy change in 2003 was “a lesson to learn.”

“Many reports have shown that the Government was not prepared to implement such a policy. Because of that, we have lost so much money.

“Therefore, we hope the Government will thoroughly think over proposals for new policies to avoid making such mistakes,” he said.

Competitive in both subjects by learning it in Bahasa Melayu, Mandarin and Tamil. Right!

Samyvellu (MIC is Samyvellu, Samyvellu is MIC) of course would never miss out to give his opinion by consistently saying something stupid. Note the part where he said something about performance of students will improve WITH this decision (change to Bahasa Melayu) then “want more to be done to enhance the use of English in schools.”

MIC president Datuk Seri S. Samy Vellu said MIC agreed with the Cabinet decision.

He said the Tamil Schools Headmasters Council has asked for both subjects to be taught in Tamil.

“Lets hope the performance of students will improve with this decision. We want more to be done to enhance the use of English in schools,” he said.

Hey, Hishammuddin Hussein was saying something? Wasn’t he the one that come up with pretty statistics every time UPSR and PMR results were announced during his tenure as the Education Minister? He claimed cows and pigs to show the standards of English, Science and Mathematics are getting better each and every year? Of course he was serving a different master back then.

Umno vice-president Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Tun Hussein was confident that a majority of the people would understand the Government’s decision if they looked at the reasons behind the move.

Hishammuddin, who was the former Education Minister, said it was impossible for the Government to expect everyone to receive the decision well.

“It is not a knee-jerk reaction as a result of political pressure,” he told a press conference here yesterday.

He said the ministry started to study the effects of teaching the two subjects in English during his time as Education Minister.

“We have been looking into the grouses raised for many months and even years,” he said.

Just google for the statistics released for the results of both subjects in public examinations – UPSR and PMR and you can be sure that this buggers is a pathological liar!

Still on hypocrites. While these buggers yapping about patriotism, Bahasa Melayu, mother tongue languages, national and vernacular schools and throwing every justifications they could think of, their children continue to get the best education possible, worth every money spent.  The poor and under priviledged will continue to slug it in schools using the medium of instruction which the government had ‘objectively’ considered for them.

Ironically, what our politicians think is good for our students doesn’t seem to be good enough for them. To where our politicians sent their children to? Najib sent his kids to an International School and I am sure that school doesn’t use Bahasa Melayu in their teaching.

I quote a paragraph written by Farish A Noor in his Facebook Notes to illustrate this point.

Quote:

Secondly, one is struck by the most obvious observation that this policy has set back the process of development for scores of poor Malaysian children from every ethnic community, many of whom will remain in vernacular schools while the sons and daughters of the rich and powerful (many of them the brats of politicians, mind you) will probably be sent abroad to study in places like the United Kingdom, United States of America and Australia; where the medium of instruction will be in English. With one bold stroke, we have effectively opened a chasm between the rich and the poor, the privileged and the under-privileged, and in effect created two social classes. One made up of the poor lumpen proletariats who will be reduced to the status of surplus labour in the years to come, and another class of rich, well-connected, foreign-educated Malaysian elites whose cosmopolitan outlook and enhanced educational background will make them global citizens who can and probably will find their fortunes anywhere in the world. What a gift that we have given to the poor children of this country!

Our politicians never take us seriously. To add salt to the wound, some of us never bother to take things serious and dismiss all these as socio-political junks, allowing these ruthless nincompoops running amok with our lives. Or perhaps, it’s just me.

Maybe I should learn not to take thing seriously. It is a known fact that paying too much attention on the socio-political issues in this country is hazardous. You are susceptible to brain damage. You may get stroke or heart attack because of the rising blood pressure. Ah, talking about blood pressure, when I did my medical check up early of this month before I went for the Basic Offshore Safety and Sea Survival course, the BP reading is 140/90. That is considerably high for a young brat like me. I couldn’t find any reason to justify the high reading but now I think it may have to do with me eat, breath and shit too much political craps.

I need to read and write something happy. Or smoke something to make me happy. I’ll be back when I am happier. Take care guys, don’t let the nincompoops bring you down.

ps: NH, nah I blogged about it. Where’s yours?

pss: It’s Bahasa Melayu or Bahasa Malaysia? Fuck, can’t even get this right. Read the Constitution, idiots!

Mou Chuntoi – No balls

lalang – green, tall weeds.

kaki bodek – bootlicker, ass kisser, balls carrier.

You no understand my English? Blame the stupid education system in Malaysia, not me.

DPM: English not a ‘must pass’ for SPM?

By KAREN CHAPMAN

KUALA LUMPUR: Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin is surprised to learn that English is not a “must pass” subject for SPM and wants public feedback on the matter.

The Education Minister said it was a revelation to him as he had always thought that it was a prerequisite since students had to learn English in school.

He was also shocked to learn that national schools no longer taught English grammar.

“I don’t know how you can learn English without knowing grammar,” he told newsmen after launching the Kirkby College alumni association.

Muhyiddin said students were now merely learning communicative English.

“This means they are picking up the language for communication purposes only,” he said, adding that almost 70% of students who take English pass the subject.

The minister said he would seek public view on the matter.

“We may deliberate on it at the ministry level but as Education Minister, I want to give the public a chance to share their views,” he said.

(A pass in English has never been compulsory for SPM. Since 2000, a pass in Bahasa Malaysia was sufficient to get the SPM certificate. Previously, a credit was a must.)

Muhyiddin said he wondered if rural students would be at the losing end if a pass in English was required in SPM.

He also said he did not know if not having to pass English meant the standard of the language had gone down.

When announcing the SPM results in March, Education director-general Tan Sri Alimuddin Mohd Dom said 89% of 178,751 candidates had opted to answer the Additional Mathematics Paper 1 fully in English.

Other subjects which students preferred to answer fully in English included Additional Mathematics Paper 2 at 86%, Biology Paper 3 (81.5%) and Chemistry Paper 3 (76.8%).

A retired lecturer and teacher trainer said the teaching of grammar was integrated into four main language skills – listening, speaking, reading and writing in English lessons for students.

Check out the bolded parts, tell me if it is funny or downright pathetic? No, I am not refering to Pak Muhyiddin being surprised or in the dark over the SPM requirements for English or the teaching method. It is kinda funny yes, that he didn’t aware of things happening right under his portfolio, but he’s new to the ministry so I shall give him the benefit of doubt.

Nevermind, he was surprised over many things and I have no problem with that for the reason I mentioned above, but I shitted in my pant reading this part:

“He also said he did not know if not having to pass English meant the standard of the language had gone down.”

Of course lah, you moron! Being not required to pass English, it means students can either work less harder or totally forget about the subject and tell me if that does not contribute to the falling standard of the language?

Oh shit, we have an idiot as our Education Minister! But, hey nothing to worry as it is a norm in Malaysia to have idiots holding important positions. It is not that the previous Education Minister was not an idiot anyway. Nothing new. Life goes on. It is not even funny anymore to make joke about them.

Now what I think is funny is how our education system has consistently being reduced to a worthless paper certificate churning factory with its lowering standards.

1. English is not a must pass subject

Yes, it A pass in English has never been compulsory for SPM but it would be good for it to be implemented. To get a pass in a subject for SPM, I believe you should get marks of 30 and above. If I remember correctly, back in my days the grading system was something like this:

A1= 85 and above; A2= 70- 84; C3= 60-69; C4=50-59; C5=45-49; C6=40-44; P7= 35-39; P8=30-34; F9= 29 and below.

To get 30 out of 100, I don’t think it is really a feat to achieve.

Muhyiddin said he wondered if rural students would be at the losing end if a pass in English was required in SPM.

So? What is your point? We shall let them pass when actually they would fail under harder requirements? And that is supposed to be good for who? The students? The ministry? The country? What good it is to have a pass on paper, when in reality, they would fail?

This is what I say, a doing of a stupid leader. You should find ways to help them pass. But definitely not by making it easier or lowering the standard to let them pass.

Mahathir came from kampung. Zaid Ibrahim came from kampung. Lat was a kampung boy. Many successful people also came from kampung. How the hell they can speak good English now?

2. Communicative English, forget the grammar

I don’t really see how a person is going to learn about a language without learning its grammar. Do you it is okay to have students putting up sentences like “I are happy today because yesterday my boyfriend buy me 4 plate of mee goreng?” I don’t really know how they teach ‘communicative’ English, Cibol did mention to me something about as long as the student can string up a sentence and the ‘meaning’ is there then it is okay. Full mark. Oh, Cibol did a stint as a teacher last time in Bintulu and he was shocked when he told me that. I was like “Huh? How to learn English properly without learning the grammar?”

Does it mean students nowadays can forget about learning English chapters for present tense, past tense and all the tenses? How about the verbs? How can you teach something half-baked and not in its pure, original sense? If in English we have tenses, verbs and in Bahasa Melayu we have tatabahasa. How about learning Malay language that way too, say for example simply use the imbuhan awalan – ‘me, men, mem meng, ter, peng, per‘ in front of words like mengkerja, termati, pengrogol, memnyanyi? Can?

I suspect it is for grading purpose, to make more students pass the subject. But, why? Who came up with the idea to teach English this way must be hang, shot, hang, burned and shot again.

Well, I posted the above news at my Facebook Notes, and received a comment from a teacher friend:

‘English teacherss are still teaching the subject properly in school. The different is, they emphasize more on speaking skill as they try not to be too exam-oriented.”

But, to speak the language you must at least master the grammar and everything first so you don’t sound funny when you communicate no? Whether the emphasize is on the ’speaking/verbal communication’ or ‘exam/written communication’, that is besides the point.

Just for a moment you thought that there are many wise Malaysians out there with thinking hat and would support if the move to make English a ‘must pass’ SPM subject, but no. It is not an official poll or survey and definitely not a right way to gauge public opinions on this issue but if this piece of news is to be trusted, I rest my case and weep for this lovely country.

(The Star) PETALING JAYA: Most of the 500 views received by the Education Ministry as at the end of office hours yesterday are against any move to make English compulsory in order to obtain the Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) certificate.

A ministry official said those who contacted the ministry wanted the status quo to remain.

“We started receiving telephone calls from 10am until 5.30pm yesterday,” she said.

From today, she said people could telephone the ministry’s hunting line at 03-7723-7070 with their views from 8am to 5.30pm.

“There are 27 lines and we have enough people manning them,” she said.

People can also e-mail their views to kpkpm@moe.gov.my This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it or send a fax to 03-7710-8880.

On Monday, Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin had said he was surprised to learn that English was not a “must pass” subject for SPM and wanted public feedback on the matter.

The Education Minister said it was a revelation to him as he had always thought that it was a prerequisite since students had to learn English in school.

He said he was also shocked to learn that national schools no longer taught English grammar.

Muhyiddin said students were now merely learning communicative English.

A pass in English has never been compulsory for SPM. Since 2000, a pass in Bahasa Malaysia was sufficient to get the SPM certificate. Previously, a credit was a must.

Read the bolded sentences at the last paragraph and tell me if that sounds right to you? I really don’t understand why the fuck, pardon me there – we are making it easier for students to get their education ‘certificate’ when in reality, the outside world is getting tougher for them to compete and live.

So it is no wonder that we have more students getting As and the statistics showing better results every year compared to the previous years. That probably explains why are there more complaints by employers about their new, fresh employees being clueless at their jobs, despite the statistics and results showing otherwise. Mystery solved.

If this is not going backwards, then I must be walking backwards all this while when I thought I was moving forward, because obviously my forward and backward definition are all messed up.  Don’t geddit? Never mind.

If the Education Ministry is serious about this issue, it should make a proper referendum. Vijay Murugavell has this to say on the method of getting public feedback by the Ministry.

I totally disagree with above method of getting public feedback on a matter of utmost importance to the Malaysia’s future.

Where is the transparency in 27 hotlines and email feedback ?

No matter what the result it will be disputed. Why not conduct a more encompassing national referendum ?

In countries in which a referendum must be initiated by parliament it is sometimes mandatory to hold a binding referendum on certain proposals, such as constitutional amendments. In countries, such as the United Kingdom, in which referendums are neither mandatory nor binding there may, nonetheless, exist an unwritten convention that certain important constitutional changes will be put to a referendum and that the result will be respected.

By nature of their effects, referendums may be either binding or non-binding. A non-binding referendum is merely consultative or advisory. It is left to the government or legislature to interpret the results of a non-binding referendum and it may even choose to ignore them.

In our case however , I plead that it be a binding referendum, because I have more faith in the collective wisdom of my fellow citizens than the government of the day.

Vijay Kumar Murugavell

I couldn’t agree more.
