Oh Chor Mee @ Lau Ya Keng

Tuesday, July 15th, 2008 23 views

Last Sunday, I had a ‘makan’ session with some friends at Lau Ya Keng Food Court, Carpenter Street.

Lau Ya Keng Food Court is located opposite a Chinese temple along Carpenter Street . It is very easy to find, smack in the middle of Kuching city centre. A simple food court that has been around for decades and is very popular with locals - breakfast, lunch and dinner.

Chinese Temple opposite Lau Ya Keng

Since I am still considered as a noob in Kuching, a lady friend ordered for us. She was from Kuching, now residing in Petaling Jaya and was in Kuching here for leisure. Another friend with his partner from Penang - they were here for the Rainforest World Music Festival also joined us for the ‘makan’ session. We had Oh Chor Mee and Dry ‘Kiaw’.

Dry ‘Kiaw’/'Pien Neek’/Wantan/Wanton/Wuntun

Kuching people called it ‘kiaw’ (Hokkien dialect) and if you go to Sibu or Sarikei they called it ‘Pien Neek’ (Foochow dialect) and in Peninsular, they just called it ‘wantan’ (Cantonese dialect). In Itali, they called it ‘ravioli’. Ok I bluff you on the Italian part :P You can have the wantan dry or with soup. I don’t think they serve it dry in Peninsular, they only have fried and soup wantan. Probably it is because, from what I noticed that, in Sarawak you get a generous meat filling for the wantan but in Peninsular they are pretty kiam-siap (stingy) so most of the time you end up having just the skin/wrappers-made from fresh dough with insignificant meat filling. Imagine a bowl of ‘dry wantan’ where you just eat the wrappers. Ughh…

Oh Chor Mee - Chinese Black Vinegar Mee.

It is basically Kolo Mee added with Chinese black vinegar according to my friend.  I first thought it is just another Kolo Mee with extra ingredients. (Special Kolo Mee) The taste?? Awesome!! The vinegar gave the mee some extra flavor and aroma - slightly sweet and sourish, add that to the saltiness and sweetness of the Kolo Mee, it is a make-match made in heaven. :P Go satisfy your craving now!!

Back in the Land of Hornbills!

Tired..

For the last few days.. busy sorting my stuffs to be packed.

The war zone..

I thought I could pack all this in just 2 bags.. how wrong haha!

End up getting a big-ass bag. Easily can stuff STP in.

Off I go!

At the ’ketupat’ hall  :D

I reached Kuching around 12pm yesterday.. went to Holiday Inn to check in. My nose was killing me. I was having a bit of flu.. keep sneezing on the plane, damn embarassing. I am allergic to dust.. was sneezing all the time while packing my luggage already :P On the plane, I couldn’t control the flowing of mucus from my nose either, the thing just ‘free flow’ from my left nostril nyahahahahahha! End up stuffing my nostrils with tissues  I contemplated to take some photos.. but decided to spare you good people from those disgusting photos :p Some obligatory photos to be taken as someone who has a blog before I went to take my nap :D

Then I went to sleep.. I even missed the match between Spain and Sweden  So I woke up this morning, rewarded myself with a plate of oily, tasty KOLO MEE! :D :D :D

Wednesday, January 30th, 2008 76 views

Angeles commented in my previous post :

“mmm… just tell me how u gonna spend your cny hols… i not interested to knw abt other things :P

Guess that my previous post a bit too boring and un-interesting to read :P Reading too many bad news can be hazardous to health and cause mental damage. With what is happening in this country, the odd of getting brain damage is definitely very high. Oh, if you want to read feel good news, just grab a copy of either The Star, NST, Berita Harian, Harian Metro, Utusan Malaysia, Sinar… :P

CNY is coming!!! I am going back to Sarawak this Friday! Depart from KLIA at 8.50pm to Kuching, flying MAS this time. (Baru ada class beb! Haha!) It was because when I did my ticket booking, Air Asia ticket was more expensive then MAS. Damn it, a week after I booked mine, Air Asia came out with cheaper tickets. $@^%^%!!!

It is been a long long time since I back to my hometown. The last time I went back Sarawak was to attend a friend’s wedding, back in March? And oh-mai-goat! This time I go back, I am already an uncle! Yes, that friend gave birth last December. That’s fast! :D  So how I am going to spend my CNY holiday? First thing first.

1. Eat!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Kolo Mee - I miss kolo mee so farking much!!!!! Argh!! What else?

Sarawak Laksa - How’s that!!!

Tomato Kueh Teow - my all time favourite!

I am tired of uploading photos :P I actually want to put up more photos of what I want to eat and drink, but then it will suck all the bandwidth :P Lazy lah… You get my point. I want to eat… eat… and eat… first thing I will do when I land in Sarawak! Muahahahhahah! I shall continue on the rest of the things I plan to do during CNY holidays in my next post. (mudah mudahan…)

p/s : Man, posting and adding photos is so tedious, how the fark Cibol and Zewt manages to do that for most of their posts :D
