This year I am going to write a summary of my year, taking a cue from michaelooi.net because I think it is a good way to gauge where you stand at the end of the year. It is time to being reflective and look back at what we have accomplished (and not) for the year. I am intended to do this every year in the future starting from this post.

Resolutions are meant to be broken, that’s what pessimists some people say, but by having a list of ‘things to do’ and ‘marking yourself’ when the time comes, you’ll be able to benchmark yourself, against your previous self. Kinda stupid, no? But stupid things we love do, every now and then.
If you are able to plot your life on a graph, you’ll see if you are sinking fast to the bottom, maintaining a straight line, or for the best – going uphill. But, why many of us wait to reflect on our life only at the end of every year? We should do it every second, minute, and day or at every opportunity that we have. Looking back and retrace your steps, the act does wonders.
So, year 2008. How has it been for me? Fantastic? Mundane? Alright? So so? I guess it was not a bad year, compared to the year before (2007). I didn’t write any resolution for 2008, but I did in 2007.
2007, I was in a mess. By the end of the year, I still grappling with my life, so I decided to put everything on track in 2008 – the reason I didn’t write any resolution coming into 2008. I never wrapped up those resolutions I made in 2007, so perhaps it’s due time to have a peek and see how badly I fared?

After few weeks of boredom, especially during weekends, yesterday I went to Bintang Plaza, Miri and grabbed some books. Damn cheap!! I paid RM30.25 for the 3 books. I just need something that I can hold in my hands and read. I saw the exhibition booth last Wednesday when I went to watch Twilight with Nono and Amoi.

The movie is based on Stephanie Meyer’s young adult vampire-romance novel of the same title, Twilight which is the first book among the Twilight series. Girls dig romance flick, and they dig vampire romance flick even more. Dark romance, wicked attractiveness, forbidden love and potrayal of dangerous lovers just too hard to resist, hence I saw Nono and Amoi GETE* caming out from the cinema.
It is a proven formula in Hollywood. Cast a handsome romantic male lead in the role of ‘vampire’ and let him sucks the audience dry. But, spare me please. I wrote this on my Facebook status after watching the movie: ”Love conquers all, even vampires! Corniest teenage love story – Twilight.”
I find the movie a bit too boring and predictable. The movie loses the plot the more it tries to emphasize it. Vampires playing baseball? Ughh! Well, my typical response to most romance flicks, honestly I watched those movies for the cute chicks factor.
This is my 3rd week working in Miri and I am still adjusting with the slow paced life here. Nothing to rush in Miri. First day of work, I was in front of the office at 7.15am and it was not opened yet. 2nd day, I came at 7.30am and it was still not opened yet. Since then, I would go to work at 7.45am, taking my sweet time. It is only a 5 mins drive from my house to my workplace.
I wake up teribbly early nowadays, I have no idea why. Probably the sun rises early at this side of the world? With or without alarm clock, I would wake up at 6am-6.30am. Yes, that’s early in my book, my standard of ‘waking up early’. I would wrestle on the bed for another 1 hour before I take my shower and prepare myself.
I am not looking forward to weekends since working in Miri because time passes damn slow here. Watch tv? Online? Read blogs? Meeting friends? I hope getting few books to read may alleviate the boredom plaguing me for the past few weeks. Hidup ini tidak palat lagi!

Talking about ‘hidup‘ and ‘palat‘, it reminds me of the tagline by KAMI – Hidup ini memang palat, tapi esok masih ada. (Life sucks, but there’s always tomorrow). I love the series and the movie. I followed the series when it was first shown on 8tv, replacing Gol and Gincu. Most locally produced series not worth to watch because of the poor acting and crappy storyline. Damn kayu!

Chinese or Malay dramas all the same. I don’t know how many people out there can relate to stories protraying Datuks and Datins living in big mansions, chaffeured around, cat fights among few rival families (Datuks and Datins again), overused theme of fragile, sensitive heroine, dating the macho hero whose can’t make his mind which girlfriend (insert possesive bitchy ex-gf role here) to marry with, then the bad guy whose always turn out to be the heroine’s ex-boyfriend (and always somehow currently dating hero’s ex-gf and plotting to take over the world together), tagging along few kayu ‘mat pukul‘ with him bashing the hero or persuading the heroine to be together with him again. Yawn!!
KAMI is an exception. The acting is not forced. Natural. KL as it is. People in the movie actually talk like how we at the outside talk. They do stuffs we do. They talk about things you and me talk about. You can actually relate to the movie or drama. Well I can.
Everyone have secrets. We all experience many crappy moments and periods in our life. (Hence the palat in the tagline) but there is always tomorrow, another day. It is not going to rain forever!
ps: Liyana Jasmay cun ok! The pout is killing me softly. I think I syok kat dier. She’s 19, but she’s legal. LOL!
pss: GETE – Grinning ear to ear
psss: Palat in its original meaning?
